Relocating rats may seem like a very humane thing to do after catching them, but in reality, it is actually the opposite. Rats have no chance of surviving outside their territory, and the reasons will be discussed below.

Rats are not good at adapting to new or different territories; all their lives, rats live in the territory they are born in. They learn about their territory and know about the location of food and water sources. After learning all these, a rat will be used to these particular places as its food and water source. Rats are intelligent creatures, but this mechanism is limiting because it takes time for them to learn about a particular environment, and a lot of errors are involved. Also, rats suffer from neophobia, which is the fear of new, unknown, or unfamiliar things.
